| Freedom of Expression Leeds Lit Fest recognises the importance of freedom of expression and open dialogue as part of a literary festival. However, this right is not absolute. It does not extend to speech or conduct that: Is discriminatory, harassing, or hateful toward individuals or groups. Targets or demeans individuals based on protected characteristics. Undermines the Leeds Lit Fest’s commitment to providing a safe and respectful environment. Leeds Lit Fest reserves the right to determine, at its reasonable discretion, whether content or behaviour falls outside these standards. |
| Code of Practice All participants and stakeholders are expected to observe the following code of practice: Printed material may only be provided where it has been requested. Printed material must not be distributed unsolicited. Banners, placards, and posters must be appropriate for a family-friendly event. Images must not be likely to cause distress or concern, particularly to children. No canvassing for signatures or petitions. No use of loudhailers or amplified sound. No chanting or broadcasting of slogans. |
| Enforcement If Leeds Lit Fest becomes aware of behaviour or material that does not comply with this policy, it will seek to address the matter in a conciliatory and proportionate manner where possible. Where this is not possible, or where the issue is serious, Leeds Lit Fest reserves the right to: refuse participation; withdraw invitations; require any individual or organisation to leave the Festival. If you have noticed, or experienced anything that is not in keeping with this policy you can bring this to our attention by speaking to one of the Directors of Leeds Lit Fest who will be identifiable by their LLF lanyard If you would like to make a complaint please refer to our Complaints Policy |
